about

A final single release before the album launch on May 26th

It's a flirting song really. Two people fancy each other in a bar.
"Not just any bar," says McCarthy. "It's The Town Hall Hotel in North Melbourne."

"I have great synergy with this hotel. It's one of my favourite places to be. I first entered the ragged rock'n roll surrounds pretty much on the day the famous current owner Jonny Collin took over.

The Special have played many gigs there. We always have such a good time. We usually convene in the courtyard to abide in certain happenings, including the construction of a vague setlist. I've attended 'The Townie' as it is known, alone quite a lot.

One time, in particular, I sat in front of a beautifully constructed open fire built by the equally famous 'Joey' who works there. It was about 5 in the afternoon in the dining room. My boots were wet, and the fire was drying them while I sipped from a dark ale pint. It was the night The Rolling Stones were playing in Melbourne. I didn't have a ticket. As I sat there, Jonny and crew came trundling down the stairs and straight out the back into a waiting cab, off to see The Stones. I happily wished them well into the night and fell into a dream gazing into the flames until the first diners arrived.

Since then Jonny and I have started our 'Stonesmonth' podcast discussing everything Rolling Stones. We record it in the front bar of The Town Hall Hotel. A very special place.

The Best in You
Written by The Special 2020

V.1 How do you do and what’s your name
What do you do Where you from?
She said I like this old ‘Town Hall Hotel’
With its bottles and prints and meals

V.2 I said you like a bit of music do you?
She said I play the trombone on the weekend
She said its loose and lucky times on the orchestra front line
You should come and see us sometime

Ch I see a lot in you, won’t you take a stroll round town in the morn time
I see a lot in you, can I get you something cool from the bar?

V.3 I said I sure would like to catch you up
Can I call you on the phone on a Saturday night?
I’m often home alone awake in fright

V.4 A little Rollin Stones and a redneck rock
Rachmaninoff and a Haydn
She said “it’s only rock’n roll” but she likes it
You should hear my records some time

Ch. I see a lot in you, won’t you take a stroll round town in the morn time. X3
You should hear my records some time
